Sacramento, CA- The Board of Directors of the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association (SCDSA) has officially endorsed Michael Gates for California Attorney General.

Michael Gates is an experienced attorney, former Huntington Beach City Attorney, and candidate for California Attorney General with a strong record in public safety, civil litigation, and government accountability. During his decade as elected City Attorney, Gates established the city’s first Criminal Prosecutor Program, contributing to a significant reduction in crime while working closely with law enforcement and first responders. He also led high-profile legal challenges involving voter ID laws, sanctuary state policies, housing mandates, and COVID-era government actions, helping protect hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars. In 2025, Gates was appointed Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, overseeing approximately 100 attorneys across multiple divisions.

Mr. Gates stated, “Receiving the endorsement of the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association is a true honor and one that I do not take lightly. To earn the trust of the men and women who have devoted their lives to protecting us is among the highest honors I could receive. These deputy sheriffs carry with them courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to public safety every day. They deserve an Attorney General of equal tenacity, and I intend to be exactly that. I look forward to joining them in Sacramento as we fight to restore safety to our great state.”

“It is time for California’s top law enforcement officer to begin supporting the men and women who put their lives on the line every day. Michael Gates has a proven track record of enforcing California’s laws, and we look forward to partnering with him to continue to prioritize law and order over criminals in his new role as Attorney General.” -Sergeant Nathan Seger, S.C.D.S.A. President.
