Sacramento, CA- The Board of Directors of the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association (SCDSA) has endorsed Congresswoman Doris Matsui for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in California’s 7th Congressional District. Congresswoman Doris Matsui has represented Sacramento and the surrounding region in Congress since 2005, where she has focused on issues including public safety, flood protection, access to affordable health care, and clean energy. With the Sacramento region facing significant flood risks due to its location at the confluence of the Sacramento and American Rivers, Matsui has worked to secure more than $4 billion in federal investments for local flood prevention and protection projects. Her efforts have included securing $1 billion for the Joint Federal Project at Folsom Dam, a major initiative designed to strengthen flood protection throughout the Sacramento region.

Throughout her time in Congress, Matsui has also supported bipartisan legislation and federal funding aimed at strengthening law enforcement recruitment, retention, and specialized training. She supported the HEROES Act and efforts to expand student loan forgiveness opportunities for first responders, law enforcement officers, and other public safety professionals.

Prior to serving in Congress, Matsui was actively involved in the Sacramento community, including serving as Chairwoman of the Board of KVIE and in leadership roles with the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento Children’s Home, and Sacramento Symphony Orchestra. Raised on a farm in California’s Central Valley, she graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and later served as Deputy Assistant to the President in the White House Office of Public Liaison. Matsui was first elected to Congress in a 2005 special election following the passing of her husband, Congressman Robert Matsui.

Congresswoman Matsui stated, “Sacramento Deputy Sheriffs are working hard to keep our residents safe, curb the epidemic of retail theft that is hurting local business people and honest consumers, and shutting down human trafficking and the spread of fentanyl. That’s why I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the Sacramento Deputy Sheriffs’ Association.”

“Congresswoman Doris Matsui has consistently demonstrated that her support for public safety goes beyond words. She has fought to bring critical federal resources home to Sacramento, including funding that directly supports local law enforcement and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Doris understands that keeping our communities safe requires investing in the men and women who do that work every day. The members of SCDSA are proud to support her continued service in Congress.” – Sergeant Nathan Seger, President of SCDSA.
